    Insurance

Insurance coverage of prescription weight-loss medications varies among provinces and insurance providers.
You can log into your insurance provider’s website and look under the drug-plan benefits page to see if your insurance plan covers the cost of these medications.

    Out Of Pocket

Out of pocket cost of these medications can range between $100 and $1,000 per month.

This depends on the medication, the dose and your insurance coverage. If you have additional obesity-related health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, you could have access to coverage for some medication expenses.

What to Expect with Our Medical Program

Your first visit to the clinic will last approximately 45 minutes. The goal of this visit is to welcome you to the clinic, hear your story and discuss what your treatment plan may look like. You will see the Bariatric Medicine Specialist, who will complete the following:

    1. Clinical interview: The doctor will ask you about your medical history. This will include questions such as: "What factors are contributing to your condition? What other medical problems you have associated with your weight issues? How does this condition impact your life? What other treatments have you tried in the past?, What does your lifestyle look like? How can we help treat your condition?"
    2. Physical assessment: The doctor will measure your vital signs and perform a routine physical exam, including an electronic body composition analysis.
    3. Discussion about your treatment plan: The doctor will outline your treatment plan and discuss behaviour changes, as well as nutrition and exercise components. They may also cover the potential role of medications and non-medical alternatives such as intra-gastric balloons or surgery.

Ultimately, the choices in your treatment journey are yours to make. As your team of medical experts and weight-loss professionals, we're here to provide insight and support, fostering a collaborative partnership. We empower you with the necessary information, enabling you to make well-informed decisions about your health.

    1. Connect with other team members: Once your assessment is completed and we have agreed on a treatment plan, you will be referred to our patient care team to complete the following steps:
    • A 60-minute initial assessment with a Registered Dietitian to review your dietary patterns and concerns, helping to create a tailored nutritional plan and to set goals.*
    • A 45-minute initial assessment with a Weight Loss Coach. This initial interaction is used to discuss your weight loss goals, review your current behaviours and physical activity, and to develop a weight-loss plan that fits your needs and preferences.*

    * Appointments with our Registered Dieticians and Weight Loss Coaches are completed virtually by phone, text and video-calls.

For Better Results, We Offer Body Composition Tracking with InBody!

Body composition is used by health professionals to evaluate a person’s weight by breaking it down into its core components: fat, protein, minerals, and body water. It describes your healthy weight more accurately and provides a better glimpse into your overall health than traditional methods like body mass index & weight.

A body composition analysis can accurately show changes in fat mass, lean muscle mass, and body fat percentage.
